Negative Political Ads: Necessary or Not?
Student Reporting Labs youth reporter Nolan posted the following question on Facebook to see what his fellow peers thought about negative political ads airing in New Hampshire.
What is your opinion on negative ads attacking other candidates that you may see on TV or online?
Here are some of the responses he received:
“I think they are wasting their time attacking each other. Instead of informing us about why they should be president and what they are going to do for our country, they are instead spending their time picking out every little flaw in the other candidates. It makes me wonder if they really have any campaign material, or if they are just building off of others mistakes.” Posted by Melanie L.
“I think it’s repulsive, honestly. Is this what the government has become? I’m not sure if they spend more time endorsing their own plan or criticizing their opponents’ plans.” Posted by Sophia G.
“ tick me off…’nough said” Posted by Bailey B.
“I feel like the candidates are just wasting their time by going at each other; the negative information on candidates is already out there. I think I know more negative attributes to those running than positive, and it’s sad, because I think an election should be about supporting who you think will be the best choice as president. What it has become, however, is trying to find a person who you disagree with the least.” Posted by Kaitlyn K.
